For any outside observer, Marie-Ange may come off here as just another vapid millennial, staring at her phone even when walking - but in actuality she's coordinating Operation Selkie Skin...

And yes, I'm not above doing humorous allusions to the passed webcomic time!

Also, I realize that from where the Warm Welcome canonically is (Hopestown) to where they are now, it would be quite a lot of walking.
So let's just assume that they also took some public transport in the interim.

Oh, and this is the second time that we get a glimpse of the background image on Marie-Ange's phone.
Bonus points for anyone who can tell me what's up with that... ;-)

I decided that between this one and the next chapter, I'll squeeze in a short Halloween story.
So, to wrap this chapter up before Halloween, this comic runs on a 3 pages/week update schedule from now on, in case you were wondering why this page is a day early!

Technically, he's right

The mermaid is oblivious

Poor oblivious Lora is very lucky that Marie-Ange has been on to Imker since already a while ago, and thus has hatched a plan...

And you keep losing when you oughta not bet
You keep samin' when you oughta be a'changin'
Now what's right is right but you ain't been right yet
These boots are made for walkin'
And that's just what they'll do"
One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you

Pffft, I wonder whose bootie-boots will walk over whom when and where? (Some of my academic-academic friends say this is the quintessence of communication theory.)

Hmmm... Concerning walking-related things that have been used by academics as a metaphor various concepts, only the Red Queen's race comes to my mind...

Slaughter Street is harder to find than it should be...
Microraptor edit delete reply
Yep, they're near the place where all that happened...
(Incidentally, the page I'm currently working on even has a small dialogue reference to that.)

And thanks for the link! ;-)
In a bit of bad timing, I had to draw the now following part of the story without this specific source of visual references...
Related fun fact: Because I figured that cities usually have a unified street sign design, I used the linked page a as reference for the sign here.

They really think they haven't noticed-? With all those people??

A sure sign that...
