Jepp, that's what this whole chapter has been building up to. Gustav originates from a time wherein Protestants and Catholics were still at each others throats, and it is thus very hard for him to fathom how members of these two denominations can simply coexist peacefully and even intermarry and have kids, without a big quarrel over how they should be baptized.

From now on, it's the previous "twice per week" update schedule again!
Right, it's sort of a cultural shock due to temporal displacement. Though "temporal" always sounds to me as if time travel is involved, and Gustav is just very old. (And I guess you don't even have to become a ghost to fall victim to that effect, just to get old enough to not understand the younger generations anymore.)
That being said, even Gustav is not completely unable to adapt to the times - he had no issue with measuring his fencing skills against a woman for example. It's just that society's changing attitude concerning religion is a huge blind spot for him!
Yes, Gustav probably had to go through quite some terrible sh*t back then. So even though most of us today don't share his whole extreme anti-Catholic attitude, at least it's easy to understand where it's coming from.
So is this considered culture shock or temporal shock? I mean, you know what they say, the past is another country after all...
