Yeah, I don't think I've seen any depiction of magical wands that doesn't convey a very real and present danger--The Magician's Apprentice, Harry Potter, that one trailer for Bright... of course, maybe magic has its own version of the National Rifle Association.
I have been meaning to check out Netflix's Dirk Gently (I quite enjoyed the books by Douglas Adams of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" fame), but didn't come around to do that yet. (Now it's definitely on my to-do list!)
I watched the short lived BBC adaption which I've been told are close to the books. The Netflix adaption however is miles apart from them. But it's still quirky and weird. They've got an holistic assassin by the name of Bart Curlish and she's my favourite.
I actually got the idea for this aspect of the story while watching a YouTube movie review for one of those super-saccharine and super-pink GGI Barbie movies... (It might have been this one.)
I had to google this Evil Stick now...
(The only think that initially came to my mind was the "Deathstick" as an alternate name for the Elder Wand from Harry Potter - you wouldn't want to give that one to a little kid either...)
But after googling: Holy fuck!!
Firstly of course because: Why on Earth was this made and sold!!??
Secondly because the design of that thing is indeed remarkably similar to what I came up with!
Though this may be because I was indeed inspired by wands as seen in "magical girl" animes, wherein you can just tell that they are designed as "toyetic" as possible, in order to sell them as merchandise to little girls...
Oh, there is no need to feel sorry about making me google that!
I mean, this is oddly fascinating... Per se, but also in a "life imitates art" sort of way.

I remember finding out about it on Chezburger or something, and it's also on TV Trope's Horrible Toy listing.
