Even evil has standards - though sometimes they are not all too high...

I remembered halfway through that I have already introduced a shady antiques dealer!
Thus I made those two blood-related now.
(Freder Roseland and the Mayor are both part of Gernsbeck's "mysterious antiques" scene too, but they are more like the customers rather than dealers themselves.)

Also, I guess it should be clear by now who this "pirate lady" is... ;-)

Honestly I'm all for selling smart-aleck children to pirates; I think this should be standard practice.

It sounds like one of those stories parents tell their kids to scare them into behaving.
(Step aside Krampus, Bogeyman, et cetera - there is a new player in town!)

When you're already committing a crime, what's wrong with adding human trafficking to the list? >.>

At this point, he won't get away scot-free anyway if the police ever gets ahold of him!

I wonder how many pirate crews I would have been sold to by age 18 if this was the norm. :p

...and if you are an extra-naughty kid, they may even resell you to even worse pirates! :-D

Wait... does Camilla buy the children she takes on as crew members?

Somebody really needs to put these two down. It's too bad Ytterbium isn't a superhero anymore. :P

(They are lucky they are not in my comic's town. A certain Captain might not be too Happy about their activities...)

Usually Camilla prefers to recruit children herself by convincing them to join her voluntarily.
But if someone comes along and makes her a decent offer...

And yeah, Gernsbeck is in serious lack of any decent superheroes...

But funny that you mention Captain Happy...
He may be far away right now, but the path to how these guys will be stopped will indeed have a tangential connection to him...
Sounds cryptic, but all the puzzle pieces for what I mean are already there... ;-)

"Adoration of superheroes is an unmistakable sign of a self-pitying lack of agency and all its attendant psychological baggage." -Elliot Maerc

My vote is for the kids to get out of this one on their own power.

Another cryptic hint of things to come:
The kids will get the help of people with masked identities.
But: Those won't be superheroes...

I concur on the "kids get out of this one on their own" front.

That being said, speaking of people that need to be put down...

I guess I'd prefer to get sold to Camilla rather than to Maerc...

Phew, the old guy isn't as crazy as this jerk, at least.

But he is still crazy enough for considering selling kids to pirates to be totally OK... ;-)
