And we are back home, and furthermore learning what Lena's motivation is.
Turns out that she intended to gain power by going "ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAIR" et cetera. She expected the Apple to grant her some kind of "glamour".
Luckily though that didn't work out...
However...
This was my original intention anyway, with me planning this scene very early on in the development of this chapter.
But in the meantime between then and now, this scene in Childhood's End came along, revealing that Lena's boss Bettina Timmy might be driven by rather similar motivations.
So, did Lena act all by herself, behind Bettina's back? Or on behalf of Bettina?
My solution for now is that I designed this scene to be ambiguous:
It seems that Lena is talking to herself here - perhaps a bit odd, but a common trope in fiction for the benefit of the reader.
But it could just as well be that she has Bettina on speakerphone right now (or via that huge monitor in her office), and this is sort of a debriefing.
At this point, it might be easier for Lena to clear everything off of her list than to find toilet paper! (That is in places in the US anyway where people ridiculously decided to hoard as much of it as they could. I don't know how much of a problem that is in Germany.)
Yes, we had that too. Bizarrely, that toilet paper hoarding thing seems to be a worldwide phenomenon...
BTW, in the chapter that I am drawing right now, there will likely be an implicit time-skip to one to three months into the future, to when the situation has (hopefully) normalized further.
I do like the idea of leaving it open. It gives you a lot more leeway going forward. :)
And while I already have certain ideas for future plot lines, I too, as author, have to leave myself some options... ;-)
I ain't done with ToyCo either.

And once again, thanks for reading!
