I fell into a burnin' ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire...
Reminds me of an old Jeff Jones comic once printed in the german Vampirella (second edition, never saw a first on in life) about a treacherous servant who murdered his knight master after he killed the dragon because he wanted to benefit himself from the... I don't want to spoil what happens (if anyone hasn't guessed yet what she's after!), but this is a possible problem that lena might not have heard of yet... So SPOILER ALERT for the link.
It is Vampirella. She is exactly in the tradition that starts with the EC Horrorcomic hosts in the early 1950ies that made snarky introductions and comments to each horror story. Vampirella was the sexy Warren update (the first in comic, as far as I know, predated by Vampira in movies of course, who was modeled after Morticia Addams from the world war two era.) Ariane is not gothic, as often thought, but belongs to that older tradition: First Beautiful witch, turned to preraffelite beauty, then silent era vamp, transforming into later femme fatale, influencing the dark examples of first generation female heroines like Vampirella, Pantha, Valentina, Phoebe Zeitgeist and fumetti women.
If only there were an easy way to integrate audio files into webcomic pages... :-D
(Though I could easily imagine that many people would find the idea of a webcomic with actual sound rather annoying...)
Because Lena may be many things, (many bad things), but... she is not a prude... ;-)
For now I'll just say that there will be a twist in the end (two even!) - but not this one. ;-)
BTW, the way the dark-haired woman in the lower right corner (Vampirella?) is commenting the story in a snarky way seems very "Ariane-ish" to me...
