What Kanny is reflecting on here is sort of a pet peeve of mine, whenever a situation like this occurs in TV shows and movies.
Why is your body in your mind space exactly like your real body, down to your current hairstyle et cetera? What if you currently have a rash somewhere, will it be represented too? Who determines what clothes you are wearing? And how does fighting or any other physical activity work when your actual bodily capabilities shouldn't be of any relevance??

Also I wanted to avoid having Kanny purely as damsel in distress in this story, thus she is now delivering a contribution to her own rescue.

GHOST OVERBOARD!

you know you're real popular on the ship when they don't throw a life preserver but instead an anchor

It's better than keelhauling at least...

Cruisers (people who live on boats) have a joke that the difference between an accident and murder at sea is a witness.

Just imagine how many people there must have been, over the span of human history, who have "mysteriously disappeared" during a sea journey...

Which is why cruise ships had to install cameras all over the ship to monitor for nefarious doings.

Reminds me of a news story that went through German media a few years ago, regarding a pop singer who jumped off a cruise ship, very likely an attempt of suicide.
Because he wasn't found afterwards, he is officially just missing and not declared dead, but at this point his survival is very improbable.
