I don't want to mansplain to the political extremists of the 1920s how to run their paramilitary organizations, but to me it seems rather impractical that the National Socialist Sturmabteilung and the Communist Roter Frontkämpferbund had very similar looking uniforms, right down to the primarily red armband!

From "Roter Wedding", the anthem of the Roter Frontkämpferbund:
"Wir tragen die Wahrheit von Haus zu Haus
Und jagen die Lüge zum Schornstein hinaus.
Wie Karl Marx es und Lenin gelehrt.
Und schlug auch der Feind unsre Besten tot,
Der Wedding kommt wieder; Berlin bleibt rot,
Damit Deutschland den Deutschen gehört."

These are the revised lyrics by communist writer and composer Ernst Busch, but they teach us to look closely each time.

Yeah, it's indeed a bit surprising to see this line in the middle a Communist song...

It seems so at first sight. A lot of quotes have different origins then people think.
Or "Lieber stehend sterben als auf Knien leben" by the spanish communist "La Pasionaria" Dolores Ibárruri during the spanish civil war. Extremly sad that many people believe that this slogan was made by a questionable german band.
"Macht kaputt was euch kaputt macht." is played at neonazi demonstrations today, although sung by a left politrock band.

But, the original slogan in the beginning makes more sense if we look at the historic backgrounds and the developement of nationalism. The revolutionaries of the St. Paul's Church 1848, that are certainly progressive, were extremly nationalistic, too. In the Lebensreform, there were both nationalistic and commustic elements.
