Emerald despises Nazis as much as everyone else - it's just that he's so unscrupulous that he has no problem working* with them.

And Eisenthal probably doesn't know what a troglodyte even is. Otherwise he would have realized that Emerald just insulted his self-image as a member of the alleged "master race"...

* (I could have said "collaborating", however this term has has very specific historical connotations in connection with Nazis.)

...because wallowing in outrage is a lot more immediately gratifying than getting anything productive done!

also: someone's certainly being coy with certain highly charged symbols

I consider my creative ways of censoring a certain highly charged symbol to be successful when by the end of the chapter you think you have seen it completely unobstructed somewhere...
(And I was already operating by the same principle back in Chapter 17.)
Oh, and in this particular instance: A swastika that is completely soaked in blood? I count that as bonus symbolism!
