Oh, and what stories they've heard about Mercy!
For example, that one time she single-handedly eradicated an entire chapter of Starry Wisdom? Aegis has a lot of intel about that!
And since Augustus Alexander knows details about Elliot Maerc's death, he and his company may be privy to Mercy having been involved in this whole affair too...

While the notion in general of Mercy besting Imker via her reputation is based on a discussion I had with ProfEtheric about this, I got the idea about Aegis being contractually entitled to just abandon Imker from what lirvilas said in his comments back here and here.
I figured that Mr. Alexander wouldn't want someone to just recklessly waste his human resources. (Not out of any workers' rights considerations, he just doesn't want to run out of employees.) Think about it like how you're expected to treat a rented car responsibly, and not do any stunt driving or whatever.
That being said though, as preventive measure against employees abusing this clause, I think Mr. Sim is now required to write a detailed report regarding his reasons for aborting the mission - and you can bet that Mr. Alexander will personally read it and decide if those reasons were sufficient or not!
(Also, it goes without saying that we're talking about direct contracts with external parties here. If old Gus himself orders his men to do something, it can be as risky as he wants!)

They really just said "Nope"

Just in more eloquent (and most importantly contractually watertight) words!

Ahh, the fine print that defines the difference between "Hire a Minion" and "Hire Walking Ablative Armour"

If the hired minions are supposed to be later hired again by other customers, they are not to be used as cannon fodder!

but I suppose you get what you pay for

One has to seize opportunities, even (or especially) when your mission didn't go the way it was supposed to be! :-D

Gotta love henchmen who know their own mortality and when to quit! XD

Well, Henchmen who have a survival instinct are henchmen you don't have to replace that often! ^^
