Soon she'll add a pair of goggles to her outfit - and then lose the beret and only keep on wearing the goggles up until today.

Her headgear thus evolved from stereotypically French to stereotypically... steampunk! ;-)

I still love the wordplay there. Mermaid of Orleans. Brilliant!

(I have done some study into Joan of Arc, and incidentally Gilles de Rais. Interesting pair, those two...)

It's always nice when someone appreciates one of my nerdy history-based jokes! :-D

I think I put this in just for the pun, but luckily it turns out that the Loire and its adjunct canals provide enough eras of water that chasing a mermaid in Orleans actually would make sense...

Babette was probably there with her own university's cryptozoology team.
(Which is a retcon, because I didn't come up with them yet when I drew this page here. ;-) )
